The Child'Space® Method

A somatic approach to infant development

Child’Space is a unique method of sensory movement education that supports infant development. It was developed by Dr. Chava Shelhav, based on the theory of Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais.

The method incorporates mindful touch, playful movement, and face to face interactions to promote babies’ learning skills, motor development and social-emotional growth, building a significant foundation for life.

The Child’Space Method guides parents how to interact with their babies in various ways which stimulate their brain and build relationships that foster bonding and attachment.

The Child’Space certificate program trains you to work with babies with typical development, developmental delays and special needs. Both in private lessons and group sessions.

The Child’Space training program combines practical knowledge of movement and hands-on techniques alongside theoretical knowledge, in the fields of sensorimotor, neurological and psychological early child development.

In this training you will build professional competence for working with babies and their caregivers to support gross-motor, fine-motor, cognitive, social-emotional and early language development, using an approach that emphasises the child's strengths.

About the Feldenkrais® Method

Dr Chava Shelhav, founder of the Child'Space Method was one of Dr Moshe Feldenkrais' closest students and spent many years learning from him and working alongside him. The Child'Space Method was developed by Dr Chava Shelhav based on the work of Moshe Feldenkrais and his method.

The Feldenkrais Method® of somatic education uses movement, touch and directed attention to help people learn new and more effective ways of living the life they want. You can increase your ease and range of motion, improve your flexibility and coordination, and rediscover your innate capacity for movement that feels good, embodied and easy.

Since how you move is how you move through life, these improvements will often enhance your thinking, emotional regulation, and problem-solving capabilities as well as teach you how to resolve issues such as pain, stress, anxiety and fatigue. Many people who are highly reliant on their bodies in their work such as dancers, musicians and athletes use the Feldenkrais Method to learn more about the way they use themselves; enhancing their performance and creative process as they do so. The method is also practiced by people around the world dealing with chronic pain, burnout and many other challenging conditions.

The Feldenkrais Method is based on principles of physics, biomechanics, and an empirical understanding of learning and human development. Moshe Feldenkrais said, “We move according to our perceived self-image.” By expanding your perception and increasing awareness, you will become more aware of your habits and tensions and develop new ways of moving. By increasing sensitivity, the Feldenkrais Method assists you to live your life more fully, efficiently, and comfortably.

You can experience the Feldenkrais Method in two ways. Awareness Through Movement® lessons are taught in a group setting, with students following the verbal instructions of the teacher.

Functional Integration® sessions are one on one lessons where the student is guided through touch, movement and verbal instruction.
